Sonoma County was incorporated as a city in 1850 by General Vallejo. Today, the citizens of Sonoma observe the founding of the Pueblo de Sonoma in 1835 when the Sonoma Mission was established after Mexican Independence. Just 40 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge, the city of Sonoma and the surrounding Sonoma Valley provide the “perfect blend” of a friendly, small-town, wine-country community that’s rich in history with the innovative, entrepreneurial culture of the San Francisco Bay Area. The Mayacamas and Sonoma Mountain ranges on either side of the valley allow in just enough coastal fog to cool the vineyards on summer nights.
